Besides film festivals with separate categories and recognition for animation, there is quite a number of festivals going on purely aimed at  the animated moving picture. This post will include some information about them. If I find out any more info on it later I will include this in a later post.

AnimacorAnimacor is an international animation festival in Cordoba. It takes place in November. The festival is organised by the Association for the Development of the Animation Industry of Córdoba. Since the first edition in 2005 the festival is growing and the number of films is increasing. Films are now not only coming from European and Latin American countries, but also from countries such as South Korea, Iran, Canada, Russia and Japan. More information about the festival can be found on the website, unfortunately at the moment only available in Spanish though.http://www.animacor.com/ 

AnimacAnimac is an International animation festival in Catalunya in Lleida. It is non-competitive and shows a selection of the best animations done all over the world. It takes place in March.
It is the longest running international animated festival, since 1996. The festival also produces a magazine with interviews and articles.
The latest edition of this festival took place from 1-4 March this year. There were a total of 168 screenings and furthermore presentations, panel discussions, educational sessions, sessions for children, animation techniques courses, workshops, exhibitions and creative spaces. ANIMABASAURI-ANIMABASQUE
Animabasauri-Animabasque or Basauri-Bizkaia international animated film festival is an animation festival in Bilbao and takes place usually in spring. The 8th edition will be held this year from the 25th of May till the 1st of June. The screened films or for an adult as well as for kids.

Animadrid
The International Festival of the Animated Image of Pozuelo de Alarcón-Community of Madrid. Began in 2000, organized by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism for the Community of Madrid and the City Board of Pozuelo de Alarcón with as main aim to promote and spread audiovisual animation, as well as to provide a meeting place for artists and the public. Besides film sessions there are also activities like seminars, talks and exhibitions. There are cash prizes and trophies to win in several categories.

Xinacittà
Independent international animated festival in Barcelona. Started in 2002 by APQR animation producer and a group of artists called X.I.N.A Art (then based in the Xina gallery), later to become a street exhibition, showcasing the ‘bravest and riskiest animation in the world’. Trying to show quality productions that are not shown in the usual circuits and encourage innovative projects.
At the moment I cannot find an official website of the festival.
